Acting Together Against Plastic Pollution

At the UN Environment Assembly in March 2022, 173 countries around the world agreed to create and develop an international treaty to regulate the production, distribution, and recycling of plastic within 2 years. This decision is so important because it deals with the complete lifecycle of plastic, which is planned to be developed over the next 2 years. The resolutions of the UN Environment Assembly has already been referred to the largest climate agreement since the Paris Agreement 2015.

Plastic pollution has become a global environmental problem along with climate change and biodiversity loss.

Plastic pollution (mainly the waters of our planet), researched more and more in recent years, has become a global environmental problem along with climate change and biodiversity loss. According to estimates, 7 billion of the 9.2 billion tonnes of plastics produced between 1950 and 2017 are now waste. About 75% of that waste is either deposited in landfills or accumulating in terrestrial and aquatic environments and ecosystems. Curbing plastic production is an important task, as it is predicted to almost quadruple by 2050 and to take up 10-13% of global CO2 emissions.

“Plastic pollution has grown into an epidemic. With today’s resolution we are officially on track for a cure.” said Espen Barth Eide, President of the Assembly and Norway’s Minister for Climate and the Environment.

We believe in change, we support this important decision and we will report on developments of the above. We will share a longer article about plastic pollution in our waters and rivers soon.
